On Sunday, May 15th,Fairfield Glade United Methodist Church honored 20 young people from Cumberland County with scholarships. To be eligible for the
scholarship, the students must already attend or be accepted at a university, college or technical school in Tennessee and have at least a 3.0 average. The 2011
winners included 9 continuing students who have received awards in previous years, 2 continuing students who had not received prior awards from the church
and 7 students who are 2011 high school graduates and 2 new non-traditional students.
This is an annual tradition that began in 1991 when Becky Pittman began the Scholarship Fund in 1991 in memory of her son, Stephen Link. Many individuals
and groups in the church generously donate funds annually to make these scholarships available. Since 1992, the church has helped 252 Cumberland County
students pursue their educations. The scholarships are need-based and are sent directly to the institutions of choice for tuition, fees, supplies, books and
dormitory charges. No monies are given directly to the individual student.
