Administration
Fairfield Glade United Methodist Church
There are four committees in the church that have traditionally been understood as administrative
in nature. These groups serve to guarantee the adequacy of facilities, personnel, finances, and
lay leadership. Their ministry is much more than administrative in nature. Their work is
foundational to all other aspects of our congregation’s ministry. The four “Foundational Enabling
Committees” are the Board of Trustees, the Committee on Finance, the Staff Parish Relations
Committee and the Committee on Lay Leadership.
The Trustees are responsible for our ministry of space; offering a facility where persons can
learn, worship, and grow as mature disciples of Jesus Christ. The ministry of the Trustees includes
supervision, oversight, and care of all real property owned by the local church. There are many
aspects to this ministry. It includes custodial care and oversight of legal papers, deeds and other
documents; preventive maintenance planning and implementation; budgeting for all utilities,
cleaning supplies, landscaping, interior and exterior maintenance, etc. Every three years the
Trustees perform an inventory of the church’s personal property. The Trustees also guarantee
that the church is adequately insured. The Trustees also review and recommend changes to the
“Policies and Guidelines” for the use of the church’s facilities.
The Committee on Finance ensures adequate funding for the ministry of the church. The
Finance committee develops and implements plans to raise sufficient income to meet the budget
adopted by the Council of Stewards. They oversee the receipt, deposit, and expenditure of all
church funds. This committee also oversees the work of the Treasurer and performs an internal
audit annually as well as an external audit every 3 years.
The Staff Parish Relations Committee (SPRC) is responsible for providing adequate staffing
which enables persons to learn, worship, and grow as mature disciples of Jesus Christ. The SPRC
confers with the staff and pastor(s) on matters pertaining to effectiveness of ministry; relationships
with the congregation; conditions that may impede effectiveness; and to interpret the nature and
function of ministry to the congregation. This committee helps clergy establish priorities for use of
time, skills, and gifts. This committee also meets annually with the District Superintendent to
consult regarding the pastoral appointment. The committee also makes recommendation to the
charge conference for compensation of clergy and submits to the Finance committee and the
Council of Stewards the compensation recommendations for all staff positions. This committee has
the power to hire and fire all staff excluding the appointed clergy.
The Committee on Lay Leadership is responsible for the identification, development,
deployment, and evaluation of Christian spiritual leadership for the local church. This group works
with the Council of Stewards to determine the diverse ministry tasks of the congregations and the
lay leadership needed. The committee nominates individuals for leadership to be elected by the
Charge Conference.
