Servant Ministry
Fairfield Glade United Methodist Church
The Mission of Fairfield Glade United Methodist Church is to become and make disciples of Jesus Christ.

It is our hope that this community of faith may be one in which persons come to a deeper sense of personal faithful discipleship that will
enable and empower them to reach out and invite others into fellowship with the risen Christ.

We seek to offer experiences of worship, Christian spiritual formation, missional outreach, and fellowship as we learn and practice the love
of God and the love of neighbor.

SERVANT MINISTRY
A primary expression of discipleship is serving, both individually and collectively as a congregation.  Through our active participation, our
presence, and our financial gifts we support and partner in ministry with local and world missions.

More than 20% of our budget goes to local and international missions (see letter below).  Locally we support Habitat for Humanity, Avalon
Center for Battered Women, Good Samaritans, Hospice, and Bread of Life Mission.  We reach into the world through Amerasian Children’s
Fund, Heifer Project International, and Volunteers in Mission.

Volunteers in Mission
Each year we participate in a Volunteers in Mission trip to Red Bird Mission in Beverly, Kentucky.  Work teams repair homes, help at the
mission, and enjoy fellowship through ministering together in God’s name.  We also go each year to Guadalajara, Mexico to work on a
building for the Orphanage.  Not only does the team do construction work but also visit eight prisons, evangelism, school classes, soup
kitchens for children, food distribution, medical clinics and much more.

Future Mission Opportunities
The project for the fall mission trip to Henderson Settlement will be to install siding on a home along with miscellaneous projects on the Henderson campus.

Peavine Care Center Report
After many months of searching for a building we opened for food distribution
on August 5.  We are located at 3034 Peavine Rd., on the Petrie Cooling &
Heating property.

Many people have been asking how they can help by donating food or money
to the food pantry.  We purchase our food from Second Harvest, in Knoxville,
which is a non-profit organization that is able to obtain free food or purchase at
a price below grocery store prices. Donating a bag of random food items
seems like a good idea, but a cash donation of $25 enables the center to buy
130 pounds of food from Second Harvest.

Food drives will be held throughout the year to obtain food items we are unable
to purchase from Second Harvest.  Each church will be asked to donate a
specific item.

We are a pantry which supplements food when money or food stamps are
gone, so our goal is to stock everyday-type foods.

If you need more information, please give one of us a call:
Pat Carter              459-2023

Byron Buell            484-7806

We wish to thank each and every one who has made donations, volunteered
and prayed to make this ministry happen.

Updates:
All ten children who were presented for World Vision sponsorship during the Mission Moment  by Jean Roise at each worship service on Sunday, August 21, have
been sponsored!  To  find additional information and/or further opportunities for sponsorship, please logon to http://tiny.cc/ErinHoward.  This particular site is
specific to Jean Roise for our community.

On Friday, August 26th, twenty members of our church attended “Feed the Need” in Knoxville.  For two hours we packaged a dehydrated casserole dish that was
designed by food scientists to benefit a child who is suffering from malnutrition.  Each bag contained white long grain rice, vitamin fortified crushed soy, a
dehydrated blend of six vegetables, and chicken flavored vegetarian vitamin –mineral powder.  Although each bag only cost $.23 to fill, it was enough for 6 meals
for 1 child.  In our 2 hour shift, we bagged around 30,000 meals.  Ten percent of that will remain in East Tennessee while the remainder will be sent to hungry
children both here in the United States and worldwide.  To be able to participate in such a great ministry left us all feeling humbled and blessed.  Truly, as one of the
group said, “It was the best two hours I ever spent!”
